I have always had a strong desire to travel. After graduating from high school, I went out into the world and along the way I encountered people who practiced and taught yoga. I was inspired by the way these people lived and how they carried themselves. They seemed to have a sense of inner strength and peace. They were the people who I hoped to grow up to be.
This is how I found myself at age 19 attending the Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training having never done a yoga class before. It was an impulsive yet somehow intuitive choice. When I arrived at training, something that stood out to me was how kind and supportive my classmates were to the teenage girl who had never been on the mat before. This was my first experience of a yoga community. I will never forget the feeling I had of “coming home” when I realized that I was in an environment where everyone was welcomed and accepted regardless of age, religion, background, or even personality. It was a powerful moment, and a comforting one.
I fell in love with yoga asana because it brought back a feeling of physical creative expression that I hadn’t felt since I figure skated as a child. When I started yoga, it had been a long time since I had challenged myself physically, and I was weak and inflexible. When I got on the mat, there was a glimmer of a feeling that I deeply missed, and I realized how much I was craving the challenge that the postures presented.
A few years later, simply out of curiosity, I tried Bikram Yoga and was instantly intrigued by the way I felt after class. It was above and beyond anything I had experienced before. I loved the direct, clear approach, and the emphasis on using the mind to overcome challenges. The first class ignited in me an adoration for the 26&2 practice that I continue to feel every time I step on the mat. In 2013, I graduated from Bikram Yoga Teacher Training, and spent many years working as a traveling teacher in over 25 countries around the world.
In 2014 I met my mentor, Esak Garcia. I have had the privilege to work with him on both Jedi Fight Club and e84 Trainings for many years. Through these trainings, I spend much of my time with brave and authentic people who are willing to confront themselves and who love a challenge as much as I do.
I love to visit beautiful places, and equally as much I’m intrigued to visit unusual places. One reason I continue doing it is that I like the challenge of staying healthy and finding a way to feel at home wherever I go. In my experience, daily yoga practice is a powerful way to feel at home in an unfamiliar place. It’s one of the greatest pleasures of my life to be able to unite yoga with travel, and I would love to have you join me out in the world on this path of health and adventure!
